ALEX
J. GALAS was born in San Francisco and first put a Bouzouki
in his hands at the early age of 8. He started his musical
career at the age of 12, performing in numerous nightclubs
as a Bouzouki soloist throughout the San Francisco bay area.
Guided by his mentor--his father, AND AFTER TAKING LESSONS
FROM THE FAMOUS BOUZOUKI PLAYER JOHN "SPOROS" STAMATIS, Alex
appeared in concert halls..such as the San Francisco Civic
Auditorium and the Oakland Civic Auditorium, performing showpieces
on the Bouzouki and dazziling audiences with his dexterity,
exceptional skill and virtuosity. Still in his teens, " Alecos"
began a successful performing career that has spun over 3
decades and has included top nightclubs all over the United
States and Canada, in major cities including Chicago, New
York and Los Angeles. Alex has performed in concert at the
"Goodman Theater" and the "Ivanhoe Theater" in Chicago, and
the Performing Arts Center in Detriot; he has also performed
in concerts in New York, Milwaukee, and Los Angeles. The talent
of Alex Galas has been captured on many recordings; and he
has made appearances in several television shows and movies
captivating audiences all over the world.
HELLAS WITHOUT
WORDS is an instrumental compilation featuring music
by celebrated Greek composers: Theodorakis, Hadjidakis,
Xarhakos, and Loizos; performed by artists Alex J. Galas
and Yiorgos Vassilandonakis. Bouzouki artist Alex Galas
and guitarist/arranger Yiorgos Vassilandonakis joined forces
to produce this eclectic anthology of quality Greek music
distinguished for its superb musicianship as well as its
pristine sonic quality. This CD recording took over a year
and a half of patient and detailed work, enhanced by state
of the art all-digital recording technology; achieving a
very intimate acoustic sound that really touches the listener,
preserving and nurturing all the character and nuances originally
